This purpose of this handout is to inform the student and parent/guardian of the policies, procedures, and expectations of Ms. HumlicekÕs math classroom. IÕm looking forward to having a great year!
Rules:
*Be RESPECTFUL
*Be RESPONSIBLE
Grading:
There are three basic categories of points: Homework Assignments- 10 pts, Quizzes- 50 pts, and Tests- 100 pts. The assignments may not have that exact amount of points (i.e. a homework assignment may have eight problems instead of 10). In that case, I will find the percentage from the assignment and enter that percentage in the grade book. For example, if a student received 4 out of 8 points on a homework assignment, that would be 50%, so the grade in the grade book will show 5 out of 10 (still 50%). Extra credit will be offered, but the points on each extra credit opportunity will vary. I will do my best to give the studentÕs at least one weeks notice before a test will be given. However, quizzes will not always be announced ahead of time. Grades will be based on total points.
Classroom Procedure:
Each class will start with a beginning class activity (BCA). The activity could be solving a problem, answering a question, grading homework, etc. In order to accomplish the BCA in a timely manner, students must be in his or her own seat and starting the activity when the bell rings. Students should always bring to class the following: paper, pencil, pen, textbook, and calculator. Math work should be done in pencil, but a pen will be needed when grading homework.
Late Work:
Late work is not accepted.
Make Up Work:
There are times when you may be unable to attend class. When this happens, it is YOUR responsibility to pick up the work you missed. Excused absences are given one day for every day absent to turn in assignments for full credit. If you know you will be gone ahead of time, come talk to me beforehand. In order to talk to me about work missed, work that will be missed, etc, do so before or after school. During class is not an acceptable time.
Substitute Teachers:
Substitute teachers are guests in this classroom. That means they should be treated with the utmost respect and courtesy. Disobeying a substitute teacher will result in consequences.
Non-Negotiable:
Do NOT talk while the speaker is speaking, whether it is a teacher, student, or a guest in the room.
Consequences:
Appropriate measures will be taken if a student fails to follow classroom and school procedures. Actions that will be taken include, but are not limited to, teacher conferences, parent contact, detention, office visits, etc.
Assignment:
For your first assignment, have your parents read this syllabus and fill out the bottom portion of the page. You will also need to sign the bottom portion. This is a homework assignment, so it will be worth 10 points. It will be due on Friday the 21st.
