ART SYLLABUS
2010-2011
Art can, and
should be, an enjoyable experience.
In order to ensure this for all students I have the following
expectations:
I like a
quiet classroom, which allows me to work individually with students, and allows
students to work productively.
I expect
that students will focus on their work and put their best effort into any
project they are doing in my classroom.
As students
are working, new ideas will come. Suggestions from classmates may help in this
process. You are encouraged to
share ideas and make suggestions to your classmates. We will have weekly critiques of projects. These will take place on Friday at the
end of the hour. All students are
expected to participate. Comments
are to be constructive, not put downs.
Inappropriate comments will
not be
tolerated and detentions will be assigned.
Students are
expected to have materials in class to work with. Drawing pencils will be given out on the first day of
class. Not having a pencil in
class will result in the student staying in class an extra minute after the
bell rings. Each occurrence will
add another minute. Five times
will result in a detention.
Students are
encouraged to bring water to class.
There is no water fountain in the classroom and students are not allowed
to leave the room to get a drink.
Roll is
usually taken as students come across from the main building. Students need to check in with the
teacher at this point if they need to used the restroom and do so before the
beginning of class. Students are
not allowed to leave the room for the restroom unless it is an emergency.
Students may
bring MP3 players and ipods to class.
These may be used after the start of class, while students are working
on projects. If students are
talking while they have music playing, the MP3 or ipod is to be put back in
their backpack. Students may not
have it out again for a period of 2 days.
Students who do not follow this policy will have the device taken from
them and it will be turned into the office.
Sketch
book assignments will be started
in class on Mondays (or the first day of the week). They are due on Friday or the last day of the week. Students may turn this assignment in
early, but it is not accepted last, unless the student is absent on the day it
is due. The assignment is
then due the first day the student returns to class.
Sketch
book assignments will often be the start of classroom projects. Students who do not turn in sketchbook
weekly will be given a zero for the missing assignment. They will be expected to come in during
seminar to make up the work so they are ready for the class project (no grade
will be given for this work) If
students do not come in during seminar, a detention will be assigned.
Students are
expected to put forth effort in all areas and for all projects assigned. Daily grades will be affected by a
studentŐs lack of effort during class.
Students
will be expected to know and use correct art terminology and vocabulary.
The teacher
is aware that there are times when a student comes to class and is not feeling
creative and/or ready to work.
Students are expected to
participate in all aspects of the class - discussion, written work,
projects, homework, tests.
Students
enrolled in art will be expected to:
Follow
all class rules:
1. No student has the right to impede the
learning of any other student. Appropriate behavior is expected at all
times!
