PHOTOGRAPHY SYLLABUS
2010-2011
Students
enrolled in photography will be expected to follow all general class rules:
1. No student has the
right to impede the learning of any other
student. Appropriate
behavior is expected at all times!
2. NO OBJECT is to be thrown at any time,
for any reason.
3. Follow all safety
procedures on all projects with all materials and equipment.
4. NO PUT DOWNS
directed toward faculty, staff or any student.
5. Use APPROPRIATE
LANGUAGE at all times - the word ÒsucksÓ will not be tolerated.
6. All supplies are
to be out and students are to be ready to work when the bell rings.
7. Chairs on all four legs at all times.
Consequences:
1st
offense - warning
2nd
offense - 8th hour
3rd
offense - 8th hour / call parents
Additional
photography rules
1. Label your film cassettes with your name
2. Have a 3-ring notebook to store
negative sleeves and contact sheets
3. The first frame of each assignment will
be:

4. NO MESSING WITH OTHER PEOPLESÕ FILM
5. DO NOT deliberately contaminate chemicals.
6. DO NOT OPEN THE
PAPER SAFE WITH THE OVERHEAD LIGHT ON
7. DO NOT OPEN THE SIDE OF THE BULK LOADER WITH THE OVERHEAD
LIGHT ON
8. Do not print larger than 4 x 6Ó unless given specific
permission
9. Use a print projection scale or test print technique for
every enlargement
( 4x6Ó or larger)
10. Cameras must be
checked out through Mrs. Himes and returned on time.
11. Do all the assignments for the class
12. Keep a darkroom log and turn it in
regularly
Exposed film cannot be ÒfixedÓ if lights are turned on when
someone is loading developing reels.

GRADING
Daily grades = 10 points per day/ 50
points per week

Contact sheets = 20 points
Two
prints (4x6Ó) from each assignment = 100 points
Test
prints are required but are not for a grade
Film
turned in on time = 100 points/ 2 days late - 50 points/ 3 days late = 0 points
Digital
photography
Meet assignment requirements for each
assignment
Photographing
events for yearbook
= 50 points for each 1/2 of a sporting event
25 points for a
pep assembly
25 points during a class period (with teacher approval)
50 points events requested by the
teacher
Photographing
events for yearbook is required at least twice during a nine week class
period. (This could be more. Each time will earn students
points.)
The class
will consist of work in the classroom, photo assignments, in the darkroom,
outside of class, and on the computer.
Classroom

assignments will be given weekly.
Darkroom
work will include, but no be limited to:

of the darkroom and darkroom equipment

of class assignments
The majority of photo assignments will be done outside of class on
the studentÕs time. Cameras will
be checked out to the students by the teacher. Camera check-out is for three days only per assignment.
Computer
Students
will:
Use 35mm photos taken for other
assignments for these projects
Digital
photos taken for the assignments
Download photos from the camera to the computer/card reader
Scan
photos
Use filters in Adobe PhotoDeluxe to manipulate photos
Follow guidelines and steps to complete assignments
Save work to their individual files (photo / camera
Put all finished assignments in the instructorÕs drop box for
grading
Do
not print unless instructed by the teacher
