American Association for the Advancement of Science Field Test
April 22, 2009
Sixth graders at Marshall have been selected to take part in a
field test for the Spring of 2009 by the American Association for
the Advancement of Science, Project 2061. Founded in 1985, Project
2061 is a long-term initiative of AAAS to help all Americans become
literate in science, mathematics, and technology. The students will
be taking part in a trial test that will assess 21st Century
skills. These skills are defined by the Kansas State Department of
Education as new skills that will be required for students to
navigate the increasingly competitive global playing field. To
compete, our students must possess global awareness and workplace
skills that include creativity and innovation, critical thinking
and problem-solving, self directed and self-motivation skills,
team-building and collaboration, as well as information,
communications and technology literacy skills.
