Trip to Mars

by Kim Ring

May 20, 2009

On January 28, 2009, EJSHS Science Club traveled to The Challenger Center in Wellington, KS.  Science club consists of students in grades 7-12.  Students completed a mission to Mars.  Each student was given a specific job as part of the mission.  Students spent half of their time during the mission in the Mars Transport Vehicle either traveling to or from Mars.  The other half of their time was spent performing their job as part of the Mission Control Team.

Students came away from the experience with a much greater understanding of the multiple processes and jobs that space flight entails.  They practiced cooperation, decision making, and team work.  Students enjoyed themselves and experienced a realistic simulation of space flight.
