Eureka Invitational Results

 

Track season got underway with the annual Eureka Invitational held at McGinnis Field on Thursday, April 8.  Eleven schools, including the Tornadoes Track & Field team, participated.  Burlington won on the girl’s side and Caney won the boys.

 

Eureka had several good performances.  Taylyn Schwarts won the javelin, with Haley Pitko placing 6th.  Haley also placed 2nd in the triple jump, with Taylyn finishing 5th.  Cristal Ibarra won a silver medal in the 1600, as did the 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 relay teams.  The 4 x 800 consisted of Brittany Harrington, who also placed 3rd in the open 800, Randee Corns, Bailee Barrett, and Miranda Moore.  The 4 x 400 was made up of Brittany, Haley, Taylyn, and sister Ashlen Schwartz.  Ashlen also won a bronze in the pole vault.

 

The girls 4 x 100 relay team placed 3rd, team members Randee, Ashlen, Taylyn, and Bailee.  The girls placed 5th overall.  Other girls participating, but not winning medals, were Kayla Rader, Kathleen McKenzie, and Mica Gudde.

 

On the boys side, Steven Howard was the only Tornado able to win a medal.  Steven won a 4th place medal in the 1600 and a 5th place medal in the pole vault.  Also participating for the Tornadoes:  Ian Chavez, Patrick Davis, Cody Lazar, and Brandon Pryce.

 

The Tornadoes will travel to Howard for the West Elk Invitational on Tuesday, April 13.  A complete schedule can be found on the track web page.
