Regional Track

The Eureka Tornado Track & Field team had an excellent day at the regional track meet in Fredonia. The Tornadoes qualified all three relay teams, along with two in the javelin and one in the pole vault. Haley Pitko won the javelin event with a throw of 116'10". Taylyn Schwartz was not far behind, finishing second with a throw on 109' 5". This was also a personal best for Taylyn. Both young ladies will be competing in the 3A javelin competition at 6:30 on Friday evening at the state track meet in Wichita.
Ashlen Schwartz finished second in the pole vault with a vault of 8' 6". Ashlen will compete at state on Friday at 3 pm. Qualifying all three relay teams was a first for Eureka High School. The 4 x 100 relay finished 4th with a time of 53.77, which was a best for the team this year. The relay consisting of Randee Corns, Ashlen Schwartz, Taylyn Schwartz, and Bailee Barrett, will run in the prelims at state on Friday at 2:45 pm. Finals for that event are scheduled for Saturday at 3 pm.
Eureka also placed 4th in the 4 x 800 relay, with a time of 11:04.02. Ladies in that relay were Brittany Harrington, Cristal Ibarra, Haley Pitko, and Ashlen Schwartz. This relay will run at state on Saturday at approximately 10:10 am. Finishing out the qualifiers was the 4 x 400 relay team, consisting of Brittany Harrington, Haley Pitko, Taylyn Schwartz, and Ashlen Schwartz. Their time was a personal best of 4:22.71. They will run in the state prelims at 5:30 pm on Friday. Finals for the 4 x 400 is set for 6:10 pm on Saturday.
Placing for the Tornadoes, but not high enough to qualify for state in the indicated event, was Kathleen McKenzie, 6th in the shot with a put of 31' 5 1/2", and Randee Corns, 6th in the 800 with a time of 2:46.74. Congratulations to all of these young ladies for their hard work.
