Marshall Celebrates Cattlemen's Day

by Jennifer Richardson

November 09, 2009

On Friday, November 13th, the students and staff at Marshall Elementary enjoyed participating in our very own Cattlemen’s Day Celebration.  The festivities began at 1:00 and lasted most of the afternoon.  The afternoon’s activities included a line dancing session in the gym.  Several teachers and staff members got together and taught us how to do the Electric Slide.  They also led the classes in other, more familiar, dances such as the YMCAand the Chicken Dance. Many of the day’s events were held outside and the weather cooperated very nicely. Greg Butler was kind enough to volunteer his time to teach the students how to rope.  Several roping dummies were set up on the concrete pad, and each cowboy/cowgirl had the opportunity to perfect his or her roping skills.  A couple of races, appropriate for a cattlemen’s celebration, also took place. Students partnered up to compete in the three-legged race and climbed in a feed sack for a sack race.  All in all, it was a day enjoyed by everyone.
