First Quarter of Biology

October 12, 2018

The Biology classes have enjoyed the first quarter’s two units “The History of Life on Earth” and “Microbiology”. The first day of school, the students created a timeline of major events in the evolution of life on earth. The students were surprised to learn that majority of the major events in the history of life have occurred in the second half of earth’s existence. Classification was learned through the “classification” of different types of candy. Natural selection has also been tested in lab through the investigation of Peppered Moth populations and how those populations changed during the pollution caused by the Industrial Revolution.

For the Microbiology unit, students have tested different antibiotics on bacteria, simulated how antibiotic resistance can develop, and researched an emerging disease.
