3rd Graders Bring Story to Life

December 05, 2022

It is so hard to believe that the end of the 2nd nine weeks is drawing near. We have been working hard this semester, and as part of our reading curriculum here at Marshall we have been reading lots of fun stories in our reading textbooks. We have been enjoying a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction stories, and we have really enjoyed reading Native American legends. One legend we recently read was in the form of a play, and was titled Pushing Up the Sky. This Native American legend told the story of how the stars came to be shining high up in the sky.

After reading the story together and then in partner groups, we divided up the parts of the play and gave each student a part to read.  The students were then able to read the story in their parts. At the end of the week the students were given some time to make some simple costumes and then act out the story as a play. The students had a really fun time making this legend of old come to life!
