Building Line Plots
March 08, 2023
We are “Marching” in our fourth nine weeks already!! We can hardly believe it! It has been quite a busy year!J
Here in third grade we have been working very hard in math!! We finished up a unit over fractions right after Christmas, and we also just finished up our unit on graphing where we analyzed data in lots of various ways using a wide variety of different types of graphs to answer questions about the data presented.
One way that we showed our data was by using a line plot. Students had to first draw a number line and then determine how to create the intervals needed to plot data on the number line. After labeling the intervals using inches, half inches and quarter inches, we then plotted our data on the number lines by creating an “x” over each correct interval for the data set created for the problem. After plotting all our data on the number line, we added a label along the bottom of the graph, a key for the graph and a title at the top. The students seemed to enjoy creating this kind of graph and learning all about the different ways that you can graph data. The pictures attached show students plotting information onto their line plots.
