Literacy: Mastering CVC Words

Our students have been making significant strides in literacy by focusing on reading CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. These simple three-letter words, such as "cat," "top," and "bam," are the foundation of early reading skills. By understanding the structure of CVC words, students enhance their phonetic awareness, which is crucial for their future reading development. In addition to CVC words, students are also introduced to the digraph "ar," as it appears in words like "car" and "star."

Mathematics: Discovering 2D and 3D Shapes

Our kindergarten students have embarked on an exciting journey into the world of geometry by exploring both two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) shapes. Students were introduced to a variety of 2D shapes, such as circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. Through engaging activities like drawing, tracing, and cutting out paper shapes, they learn to identify and describe these shapes based on their sides and corners. These foundational skills are critical for developing spatial awareness and geometric reasoning. Building on their knowledge of 2D shapes, students are then introduced to 3D shapes, including spheres, cubes, cones, and cylinders. By using everyday objects and building blocks, they explore how these shapes occupy space and how they can relate to the 2D shapes they have already learned. This helps them visualize and understand the world in three dimensions. In class students participated in several learning activities like shape scavenger hunts around the classroom, where they identify and categorize objects by shape, and constructing simple models using play-doh and building blocks. These activities not only enhance their understanding of geometry but also foster creativity and problem-solving skills.
