USD 389 Curriculum
Curriculum and instruction throughout Eureka School District is designed to increase student achievement and prepare them for life, college, and careers as productive citizens in society.
Our elementary curriculum emphasizes mastery of basic skills in reading, math, communication arts, science, social studies, health, music, and physical education. We are in our 3rd year of applying the Franklin Covey frame work of Leader In Me. We take pride in teaching the students leadership habits to improve their social emotional intelligence. Kagan Cooperative Learning structures are implemented within lessons to provide and develop enhanced mastery of subject matter. Our holistic 21st Century Curriculum focuses on improving thinking skills, teambuilding, class building, development of character and social skills, communication skills, positive classroom management and engagement of each of the Multiple Intelligences. A Schoolwide Title and Special Education specialized curriculum is also utilized and managed to meet the needs of individual students.
Our junior high curriculum and supporting activities are designed to help students enter their teen years with success and confidence. The required curriculum includes courses in social studies, language arts, science, mathematics, physical education and health. Elective classes are available in art, music, keyboarding, informational technology skills, vocational agriculture, family and consumer science, industrial arts, and band. In addition, a special curriculum is provided for students needing special education services. Students also receive lessons on character education and leadership skills.

Our staff takes pride in the curriculum that is carried out in USD 389. Our elementary staff has designed and created scope and sequence curriculum notebooks that provide skills, standards, and resources for each content area. These curriculum notebooks provide quality evidence of our teacher's dedication to providing current and high-quality instruction. All Jr/Sr high school staff members are currently working on The Build Your Own Curriculum (BYOC) Software. This software allows each instructor to create their course curriculum while aligning it to the KS College and Career Readiness and District Standards. This process is intensive work as teachers bind crucial content to real life meaningful instruction and activity. We look forward to this process being an open communication tool for parents and community to truly understand what our staff takes most pride in... Your Child's Education.
