Exploring Science

November 02, 2022

We have started a new science curriculum called Mystery Science.  We have three units in Mystery Science and our first one is all about plants and animals: how do plants grow and what do plants and animals need.  Each unit has short mysteries and these are our lessons.  We have enjoyed using Mystery Science so far because of how it is hands on, interactive, and gets our students thinking. Through the lesson we have stories, videos, activities, and we have even acted like different animals! During this unit we stopped for a week about apples and Johnny Appleseed’s birthday.  We learned all about an apple and how apples grow. The students learned if apples would sink or float and if apple seeds would sink or float. We read stories about Johnny Appleseed and learned how he got that name. The students also enjoyed tasting different color apple and getting to explore all the parts of an apple.  Students even made homemade apple sauce one day. We love to make science interactive and hands on for our students which is why Mystery Science has been so great this year!

Kindergarten also got to go on a field trip to Walter’s pumpkin patch. Students were able to experience the educational tour that tied into our science unit about plants. Students learned how pumpkins grow and many new interesting facts about pumpkins! It was an amazing day of fun and learning.
