4th Grade Kagan and Thinking Critically
April 28, 2026
We are using multiple Kagan strategies in our classroom to enhance our students' learning. Students have participated in Round Robin, Rally Robin, Think Pair Share, Stand up- Hand up- Pair up, Timed Pair Share, and more.
We have used these in 4C for multiple subjects. Students have been active in a dairy program this year. They are learning about dairy products, dairy cattle, dairy farms, and much more. We got the chance to have a live video chat with our farmer and calf, Atlee. Our class got to send in questions to be asked on the live chat. Our class's questions got selected. We were so excited to hear our name and questions being asked on a live video. To finish up our time with Atlee we made acrostic poems. Acrostic poems are creative compositions where the first letter of each line spells out a word, name, or message when read vertically. Students used Stand up- Hand up- Pair up to share their poems and ideas with one another.
During our class meetings students use Round Robin and Rally Robin to discuss each week's topic. For example, our topic for the week was Thinking Critically. Students had great discussions in their groups while discussing “Is Social Media Good for Society?” Students were able to create their own opinion, discuss with like-minded and unlike-minded peers and do this in multiple groups. Students did an excellent job sharing their different opinions while listening and understanding other points of view. Here is the article we read, https://www.timeforkids.com/g56/social-media-debate/
