Sliding into December
December 06, 2023
2nd grade has slid into December with some fun holiday stories: How to Catch Santa, Night Tree, and Who’s That Knocking on Christmas Eve. With these stories students practice reading skills such as inferencing, comparing and contrasting, main idea and details, and making connections with the text.
In social studies we are “traveling” around the world to learn about different Christmas/holiday celebrations. Each day we explore a different country’s winter holiday celebrations, how they say Merry Christmas, and the foods they eat. As we visit each country students attach a travel sticker to their suitcase and make a small craft for that country.
We can’t believe how quick the first half of the year has gone! Mid-year testing will begin next week. We are finishing up our second module in math and will be testing soon. In reading students have begun their second volume, titled Queen Bee. Students are also learning how to split, read, and write multisyllabic words in phonics.
We wish you all a Happy Holiday!
