Business Management Students Explore the Difference Between Leading and Managing
January 20, 2026
On January 20, 2026, Business Management students participated in an interactive lesson focused on understanding the key differences between leadership and management—an essential concept in the world of business.
Students began the lesson by watching the video Leadership vs. Management: 4 Key Differences, which introduced how leaders and managers differ in their roles, responsibilities, and approaches within an organization. As they watched, students took notes and reflected on how leadership and management impact workplace success.
Following the video, students engaged in a Think, Pair, Share activity using Kagan cooperative learning strategies. For each discussion question, students selected a new partner, allowing them to hear a variety of perspectives and practice effective communication skills.
During the discussion, students explored questions such as:
- What distinguishes a leader from a manager
- Which role focuses more on people versus tasks and processes
- Whether leadership or management is more important in a business setting
- Which role they would personally find more challenging
- How understanding these differences could help them in a future career
This structured discussion encouraged students to think critically, listen actively, and articulate their ideas clearly. By rotating partners, all students had the opportunity to participate and remain engaged throughout the activity.
The lesson emphasized real-world application, helping students connect classroom learning to future jobs and career paths. Through collaborative discussion and reflection, students gained a deeper understanding of how leadership and management work together to support successful organizations.
