Sophomore English Off to a Strong Start
December 04, 2025
The sophomore class has been working diligently to expand their inference skills by using text evidence, building on known and learning about unknown symbolism through different literary works, and identifying grammatical errors through lots and lots of editing. Each week, as their bell ringer work, students edit two sentences, receive a refresher on a new literary term or concept and are given five new words. Students are encouraged to edge out of their comfort zones and make edits at the board and try to guess the meaning of the "new" words by using context clues and prior knowledge of similar words. Students have started to flex their writing abilities as well through a couple short creative stories to prepare them as we are starting our first essay this month.
It has been an amazing year so far in English! I am looking forward to more great work coming from everyone. It has been such a blessing to be in Eureka and to be a part of the Tornado Family!
Thank you all for the warm welcome, Mrs. Watts.
