3rd Grade Calculates Area

January 21, 2026

Third grade has already been super busy this nine weeks!  In math, we have been studying what makes a polygon and different types of quadrilaterals. We have sorted quadrilaterals into groups based on their attributes and discussed similarities and differences within the shapes. We have also been studying how to calculate their area, and the difference between square centimeters and square inches. In a recent lesson, we used square inch unit tiles to find areas of shapes. Using the manipulative tiles to fill in a variety of shapes was a great and fun way to understand and find the area of the shapes during math.
