Lily Dissection in 4th Grade
September 18, 2023
After learning about Plant Structure and Function, the 4th grade class put their knowledge to the test by dissecting a lily flower. Each student received a bloomed lily, parts of a flower labels, and a piece of construction paper. Once all supplies were gathered, we began dissecting our lilies. We started on the outside and worked our way in, beginning with leaves. Students tore/cut a leaf off their flower and glued/taped it onto their piece of construction paper. Then, chose the correct label and glued it near the part. We did this with each part. Parts that followed- stem, petal, anther, stamen, pistil, ovary, and eggs. The flower dissection was enjoyed by all, and a great way to wrap up our plant structure and function unit.
