Art Club Trip 2025
November 19th Art club had 27 members attend The Van Gogh Experience and The National All Craft Media Exhibition at Mark Arts both in Wichita. Students started by learning about Van Gogh and seeing some of his artwork, murals of his art and then got to take pictures in the 3-D room set up like the “Bedroom in Arles” painting. Eighth grader Natalie said “I thought it was cool how it projected different views on the Van Gogh face and the 3-D Vase.”
After that they spent 30 plus minutes in the virtual room where his artwork is projected on the walls 360 and the floor of the room. It is a total experience. The narrator tells you about Van Gogh’s life and philosophies as the art moves in and out to music. There are several paintings that have moving items like the crows in "Wheatfield with Crows" and the “Sunflowers”. Eighth grader Lakyn’s advice if you go to the Van Gogh show is “Walk through slowly and pay attention to the details.” Lastly there is a room full of sunflowers and a mural behind them like you are in the painting.
After lunch we toured Mark Arts sculpture garden and then had a guided tour by Laura Taylor of The National Craft Media Exhibition. Students even got to hear from one of the Artists, Stephanie Bayliff, speak about her artwork, a weaving inspired by her Native American Heritage. The show has artwork made of ceramics, enamel, wire, quilting, felting, glass and much more. President of Art Club, Junior Elaina said “The gallery was not only beautiful but it was a very inspirational experience.” Several members were interested in the classes and workshops offered at Mark Arts and asked lots of questions. We had a wonderful time and suggest you visit both shows.
