Reading Opportunities for 1st & 2nd Grades

February 04, 2026

We Read!

In January, Title started the new semester off with two exciting reading programs published by Treasure Bay which incorporate family engagement. Families are encouraged to volunteer and participate alongside their children. Second-grade students utilize the We Both Read! seriesThis is the second year for the series used in second grade. There are both fiction and nonfiction books for a total of 80. Last year, 8 students read all 80 books! We are hoping to have even more complete the entire series this year!

"The We Both Read books are highly effective because they engage

both children and parents in reading, and make it easy for them to

be successful. The concept of the series is simple: each book is specially

formatted for a parent and child to take turns reading aloud alternating

pages. Children get to practice reading, and they also have the opportunity

to relax and listen as the fluent reading of more complex text is modeled

for them. The result is increased comprehension, fluency, and support for

their decoding skills, along with increased enthusiasm for reading."

For the first-grade students, this is the first year Title is offering the phonics based We Read Phonics series of books. In this series, there are 28 books with both fiction and nonfiction decodable books.

"This series, We Read Phonicsis designed to help parents assist their child

in reading. Each book has a story, as well as simple word games to play.

The game focuses on the phonics skills and sight words the child will use

in reading the story. Each book in this series combines a fun story with

simple phonics games. The games are quick and easy to play and help foster

reading development."

At the end of the school year, students who have read all the books in their grade-level series will celebrate their success!
